In the hubbub of Charlottesville’s Downtown Mall, more than 220 Obama supporters—and a few pooches—gathered at the grand opening of the new campaign office at 417 E. Main Street. Friends and organizers mingled, with floor-to-ceiling wall murals symbolic of progress, and the sounds of the University of Virginia Harmonious Hoos singing tunes as the background.
Delegate David Toscano, Linda Perriello and Senator Creigh Deeds joined us, and they riled up our guests with inspiring speeches, bringing the crowd to wild outbursts of applause and cheers. But these speakers did not forget to emphasize urgency of the 2012 elections. Senator Deeds urged folks to “dedicate every fiber of [their] being to re-elect President Obama."
With this celebration of our new office, we know that this is the just beginning and that there will be more great things to come in Charlottesville. Judging by the number of volunteer shifts filled out by supporters that day, it’s pretty safe to say that our supporters are fired up and ready to go.
“We are going to need every one of you to talk to your neighbors, and to organize in your communities to keep Virginia blue,“ said Alexa Kissinger, regional field director.“Our doors are always open for you.”
