LIEBMAN: Top Romney Economic Adviser “Set A Dangerous Precedent”

CHICAGO, IL -- Jeffrey B. Liebman released the following statement in response to top Romney economic adviser Glenn Hubbard’s op-ed in the German publication Handelsblatt, in which he attacked the President and America’s policy toward Europe:

“As the economy continues to recover from the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, we need decisive action to create jobs now.  It sets a dangerous precedent for campaign advisers to write foreign language columns intended not to persuade voters here at home, but to undermine the U.S. president as he pursues U.S. interests in the midst of a very delicate situation.”

Liebman is a Professor of Public Policy at the Harvard Kennedy School and an economic policy adviser to the Obama campaign.  During the first two years of the Obama Administration, Liebman served as Executive Associate Director and then as Acting Deputy Director of the Office of Management and Budget. From 1998 to 1999, Liebman served in the Clinton Administration as Special Assistant to the President for Economic Policy.
