I'm not really a political person, but I couldn't sit on the sidelines for this election.
For the first time in my life (and I'm pretty old!) I really feel like our president is talking to me, including me, and addressing things that are important to me.
When President Obama says he wants to give every hard-working American a fair chance and a fair shake, he's talking about people like my great-grandparents, who came to this country as immigrants and worked their way up to give my grandparents and parents—and, of course, me and my 12-year-old son—more opportunities.
He's making sure Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders can afford college for our kids and health care—and that we can grow our small businesses.
With President Obama in office, I feel like someone is fighting for me and the community I care about.
Historically, we Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders haven't been as active as other communities in politics. But if we all step up (as I am trying to do now by personally writing to you), we will have a huge impact on this important election.
